Nikki & Chris Hoare.

Gained A Certificate In Hypnotherapy, Now Both Are Studying For A Diploma In Hypnotherapy.

Written By Chris Fleet, UK Hypnotherapist & Hypnotherapy Trainer @hypno_teacher

.

I am delighted to welcome husband and wife Nikki & Chris Hoare onto my Diploma In Hypnotherapy Training Course for 2019.  Both successfully gained their Certificate In Hypnotherapy previously with me and decided to continue their training and to study for their Diploma.
Chris has fostered a life-long interest in hypnotherapy & hypnosis from the early age of 13.  He is well read and well educated in the subject and is now working to gain his Diploma so that he can practice professionally.
Chris passed his interest onto his wife Nikki and jointly they used hypnotherapy to aid the birth of their children and to lesson Nikki's labour pains.
They both have some way to go with their Diploma Training (at the time of writing this article) but each has summarised their journeys so far, in their own words, in this Hypnotherapy Training Case Study, starting with Chris Hoare.
Hypnotherapy Training Case Study: Nikki & Chris Hoare Studing For A Diploma In Hypnotherapy at The Devon School Of Hypnotherapy
"My name is Chris Hoare and I have been interested in hypnosis and hypnotherapy since my early teens.
When I was 13 years old I was given a copy of Pears Cyclopaedia for Christmas. It was a book which had sections on a wide variety of topics, one of which was Psychology; it became the most dog-eared section. Within that section there was an article about hypnosis. I was fascinated and sought further information. I visited the Polytechnic Bookshop in Plymouth and bought a book entitled “The Theory and Practice of Hypnotism” by W.J.Ousby. I read it from cover to cover more times than I care to estimate. I learned and experimented with suggestion and suggestibility testing.
In trying to learn more I realised that the bookshops and the libraries were woefully short of anything to do with hypnosis. Undeterred I studied the works of Freud, Janet and Jung, although I quickly determined that Freud had problems himself. Nevertheless I got a decent grounding in the subconscious mind.
Later, as a business student, I found that the university library had what I needed and I learned more about trauma and hypnotherapy. I also read books on self hypnosis, although I had already learned that all hypnosis is in fact self hypnosis.
Years passed but I never stopped studying the subject. I worked in Birmingham Central Library for many years, eventually having the role of Business Adviser and Intellectual Property Adviser, but also using hypnotherapy to help my colleagues when requested. I studied an online hypnotherapy diploma course (I do not recommend it) but finally booked a place on a course at a Birmingham Hypnotherapy College. I earned a certificate of competence to practice Lesserian Curative Hypnotherapy, but still wanted to extend my knowledge and breadth of understanding and technique. Consequently, I am a student at the Devon School of Hypnotherapy throughout 2019, along with my wife Nikki.
I was fortunate to discover the books of C.Roy Hunter (a lovely guy), one of the foremost hypnotherapists in the US. I studied Parts Therapy under him as part of my Continued Professional Development, learned to further enhance my Hypnotic Regression Therapy techniques and set up in practice.
Of two things I am certain: firstly, you can never stop learning about hypnotherapy, and secondly, that article in Pears Cyclopaedia was so inaccurate that it should never have been printed, except for the fact that if it hadn't, you might not be reading this now."

I Urge Hypnotherapy Candidates To Choose A Niche To Practice In

During The Diploma In Hypnotherapy Training Course, I urge candidates to think about the niche they would like to practice their hypnotherapy in, once qualified.
Nikki has 20 experience as a child care professional supporting families and here she describes how she would like to use her hypnotherapy qualification to continue and extend her career in this field.
As part of this Hypnotherapy Training Case Study, Nikki describes in her own words, her future plans and her journey so far including insights into how Hypnotherapy has helped the birth of her children and her family as they grew up.
"My name is Nikki Hoare. My interest in hypnotherapy began with my husband sharing his interest with me over the years. We have spent many an hour talking about the different methods and types of hypnosis. He even shared some of the times he has used hypnosis.
We used hypnosis during childbirth to control my labour pains. My first experience was during labour of our first child as an epidural needle was inserted, even during a contraction. Again a few years later when we had twins we used hypnosis to prepare me for labour and provide pain control.
As our lives have moved on and our children have grown up, the time has come for me to take this interest further, to be able to help people find solutions within themselves and improve their lives. I started to make use of the wide range of books my husband has. I found the writings of C. Roy Hunter, a renowned hypnotherapist from America, really interesting and informative. When an opportunity came up to attend one of his workshops on Parts Therapy both my husband and I attended. This increased my interest further and I started to look for somewhere to study. I soon found Chris Fleet’s course at Fleet Hypnosis and decided that was the course for me with his belief in a client centred approach.
As the training progressed we have been encouraged to think about our own speciality. I come from a childcare background with 20 years experience as a childcare professional, providing support as well as childcare for the families I worked with. I am looking to be able to combine my experience with children with my hypnotherapy training as my career progresses, looking towards further training into hypnobirthing.
During their late teens two of our children were struggling with their sexuality, one identifying as homosexual and the other one identifying as transgender. We have been totally behind them both on their decisions and supported them as much as possible with the challenges they faced.  I will admit I think they have supported us just as much, if not more, with our open conversations.
This had lead me into looking at how I could use hypnotherapy to support others from the LGBTQ community and their families."

Before Starting His Own Hypnotherapy Services

.

Testimonial Mark Redfearn ~ Chris Fleet's Devon School Of Hypnotherapy. Mark gained a Diploma In Hypnotherapy & now has started his own Hypnotherapy business
.
Our Mark Redfearn Hypnotherapy Case Study is an inspiring story describing how despite having to look after his son at home, he managed to study and pass the Diploma In Hypnotherapy Training Course with a high grade and then go onto start his own successful hypnotherapy business alongside his other taxi driving business.
.

It Was Just Before Christmas

It was just before Christmas, a couple of years ago, and Mark rang to say he was interested in learning about hypnotherapy and hypnosis and to learn how it could help people with life affecting conditions.
But, before signing up on our course, he wanted to know more about the training and how it would work.
Meeting in a nice pub and, over a pint, we discussed the Diploma In Hypnotherapy Course and I was able to answer all his questions.
The Diploma course comprises 10 modules over 10 months and Mark, due to life pressures, had one major concern about missing a module, or part of the course, and whether he would be able to catch up. He also enquired about further training after the course finished.
But, more than anything, though, I think he wanted to make sure I was someone he could get on with.
That is a massive thing for anyone considering a training course.
If you don’t like or get on with your trainer then it’s going to be a tough time for both the trainee and the trainer.

.

Mark Is A Single Parent

Mark is a single parent and this responsibility limited his working hours around school hours and school terms.
At the time of our meeting, he was working as a taxi driver and as a trained masseuse. Both allowed him to work flexibly around bringing up his son.
We discussed the possibility of adding hypnotherapy into his working week; the fact that Mark would be able to earn an extra £120 a week, just for seeing a couple of clients per week certainly seemed appealing to him.
But, above all else, he liked the idea of helping other people improve their lives and he could see hypnotherapy as a great way of doing just that.
He is that sort of person.

.

Mark Signed Up For The Course

He signed up for the Diploma In Hypnotherapy Course and he took to it straight away.
It was obvious after the first weekend that it was something that his demeanour and manner was well suited to. He has a calm and a relaxed nature and, above all, he is someone you feel you could trust.
Following a good start, Mark started to encounter a few problems.
Part way through the second module, Mark received a phone call saying that his son had been taken ill. Mark had to leave half way through the first day of the module.
The next day he returned but, unfortunately, he was called away again.
From a technical point of view, that is not necessarily a problem because the minimum classroom hours required for the full Diploma In Hypnotherapy Course is 120 hours and our course includes a minimum of 160 hours.
But from a practical point of view, Mark was missing a vital part of the training.

.

Mark Is Not The First Person To Have Experienced This Problem

Mark is not the first person to experience this problem and he will not be the last.
It is easy to fix.
At The Devon School Of Hypnotherapy, if we know that someone is going to be absent for one day of a module, we can include the practical part of the training into the day that they are present and they can catch up on the theory later.
Alternatively, if they are going to be away for the whole module, then I am happy to catch up with them 1-2-1 training, at a later time (obviously within reason).
We helped Mark catch by coming in extra, one evening. He lives about 15 miles from the School, so this was possible.
For anyone, living further away, it is possible to carry out the training via Skype.
.

Mark Considered Deferring The Course

At one stage, Mark’s home life was getting in the way of his training and he even considered deferring the course for a year.
But thankfully, he decided to carry on and, after a while, he began to fly through the course.
He just got it.
.

He Has Common Sense And Desire To Help Others

In many ways, he is similar to me; neither of us are straight ‘A’ grade University students (I spent my early working years on building sites), but we both have common sense and a desire to help others.
These ingredients are fundamentally important and, with these in place, the course then becomes relatively simple.
The penultimate module of the course consists of a practical text.
Mark was very calm and relaxed in a situation which may have phased a more competent hypnotherapist, but he passed both sets of exams (practical and written) with ease, scoring more than 90%.
.

Mark Is Doing Well Now

Routinely, I like to catch up with students on a regular basis and recently he told me he was doing very well as a fully qualified hypnotherapist.
He is still working as a taxi driver BUT now instead of using his taxi service just as a means of income, he is using it as a means to advertise his hypnotherapy skills and to spread the word about his new business …
Meeting many people gives him the ability and opportunity to say “Hi, I’m xxxxx … and I’ve just trained as a hypnotherapist”
Approximately one third of the population will have no interest, one third won’t care, but one third will be fascinated and intrigued.
It’s that 33% that may spread the word about him and may even use his services.

.

Mark Is On His Way To Cracking It.

I’m confident that in a short space of time, more and more people will become aware of his hypnotherapy services and he will reach a tipping point where he earns more money doing his part time job than his full-time job.

When your part time job is something that you love and pays more than your full time job, you know you’ve cracked it ...

Chris Fleet, top UK accredited Hypnotherapist & Hypnotherapy Trainer for Certificate In Hypnotherapy & Diploma In Hypnotherapy

Final Word From Chris Fleet

Mark, like many students, did find parts of the Diploma In Hypnotherapy Course challenging, particularly when he had to miss parts due to his son not being well.  But he was able to catch up and ultimately flourished, finishing with a good grade.

The Courses Are Designed To Allow Time For The Students

The courses are designed to be flexible when students find certain parts challenging and even when time is lost due to personal circumstances, as in Mark's case.
The big advantage of studying in a small group, everyone works to support each other.
My goal is always to make sure everyone can work successfully towards to gaining their qualification, whatever their personal circumstances are.

Liz Hornby Gained A Certificate In Hypnotherapy & A Diploma In Hypnotherapy

Before Starting Her Own Hypnotherapy Practice

.
Liz Hornby studied hypnotherapy at The Devon School Of Hypnotherapy.  She gained both the Certificate and Diploma In Hypnotherapy.
She subsequently went on to open her own Hypnotherapy Practice, EH Therapy in Maidenhead, Berkshire and now specialises in Hypnotherapy and Reiki.
This is her story, as written by Hypnotherapist Chris Fleet.

“I cannot recommend this course, and Chris, highly enough. If you are in any doubt, go along to the taster (Certificate In Hypnotherapy) weekend because I’ll bet you anything you will find yourself wanting to take things further”

Liz Hornby

Liz and I have ‘almost’ known each other for decades through mutual friends.

A few years ago, one of our mutual friends attended a self-hypnosis workshop that I was running at The Devon School Of Hypnotherapy Training and she brought Liz along too.
Subsequent to that event, we stayed in touch as Liz was considering a change of career and wanted to work with people rather than having an office-based administration job.
After much deliberation, Liz opted to train as a counsellor, as working in a practical vocation helping other people appealed to her. But having studied for a year, she didn’t feel as though the treatments she was being trained for were ‘offering solutions’ to her clients.
She started to look at alternative treatments that would be more aligned to her personal mission of wanting to help people improve their lives.

Liz Attended My Certificate In Hypnotherapy Training Course

Liz decided to attend my Certificate In Hypnotherapy Course weekend and living 200 miles away stayed in a delightful Bed & Breakfast, a short distance from Paignton seafront and convenient for The Devon School Of Hypnotherapy.
She passed the course and gained her Certificate and decided she wanted to continue her training to become a professional hypnotherapist.
The Certificate is the equivalent of Module 1 of the 10 Module Diploma In Hypnotherapy Course, a requirement in order to work as a professional hypnotherapist.

Liz Hornby, Hypnotherapist, E H Therapy, Hypnotherapy & Reiki

“When I’d weighed everything up I decided that I had nothing to lose in attending his ‘taster weekend’ (Certificate In Hypnotherapy) in February last year. I can only sum up the weekend in one word – “Wow”. I knew, finally, that I’d found something I could do as I seemed to ‘get it’ quite quickly”

Liz Hornby

Having To Travel 200 Miles To Attend The Course Was A Consideration

Living in the South-East, the extra cost of travel to Devon plus accommodation, in addition to the course fees was a big consideration.
There were plenty of alternative Diploma In Hypnotherapy Training Courses available locally to her, but none of them seemed to offer the same comprehensive practical and theory content and all were more expensive.
After much research, she concluded that my Diploma In Hypnotherapy course at The Devon School Of Hypnotherapy was still cheaper, offered much better value and much superior content to the local alternatives.

Liz Took The Plunge And Signed Up

Liz signed up to the course and very quickly grew into it, flourishing as she learned more.
There were parts of the course that she found challenging, but she had plenty of help from myself and her fellow students.
One of the big benefits of working in a small class is everyone supports each other, and the help, guidance and encouragement she gained propelled her forward, through the challenges and her confidence grew rapidly.
Then came the practical and theoretical tests at the end of the course.

Liz Had A Phobia About Exams

Liz has always had a phobia about exams and was becoming more and more agitated as the tests grew nearer.
One of the advantages of doing this course is that MUCH practical work is included which involves the students working together; this enabled the other students to support Liz and to help her overcome her fear of exams.

The Whole Class Did Well

The whole class did very well … Module 9 involves a practical exam where members of the public come in for a supervised hypnotherapy session with the students.
Despite her initial nerves, Liz achieved a high score, here, of approximately 90{a84c90e7fc8742d8765d24ae64afde7c8c5e680d430ae1de696d39ef38fdeab2}.

Devon School Of Hypnotherapy Training - study for a Certificate In Hypnotherapy, Diploma In Hypnotherapy,

Then The Final Module

The next month was the final module where everything learned throughout the course comes together.
Having driven down to Paignton the day before, rather than on the day, she was well rested for the final exam.
Now, I am delighted to report that she flew through the exam with her combined score exceeding 90{a84c90e7fc8742d8765d24ae64afde7c8c5e680d430ae1de696d39ef38fdeab2}, making her the highest (just) scoring student in the class.

Liz Is Now Working Professionally As A Hypnotherapist

Using her Diploma In Hypnotherapy has allowed her to work professionally in her home town of Maidenhead, successfully offering Hypnotherapy and Reiki.
As part of my Diploma In Hypnotherapy Training, I offer full post-course support and advice and Liz has taken full advantage of this, seeking vital advice and support on:
  • how to start and run a new business
  • business planning
  • securing clients in a niche market place.
  • dealing with clients.
Amongst other aspects.

Initially Her New Business Generated A Second Income

Her new business was set up alongside her main career and with a growing list of new clients, she is now able to reduce the number of hours she works on her ‘day job’
The business, known as E H Therapy, now boasts its own website www.ehtherapy.uk, reaching out to potential clients and is taking off well, starting to provide a good ‘second income’ for her.

“Sometimes I still can’t believe I now have a Diploma with letters after my name! My best friend, who is also a mutual friend of Chris’s, commented that when I talked about the training with Chris, there was a lot of passion in my voice. That’s all down to Chris who has passed on his passion for hypnotherapy to us all and, for that, I thank him”

Liz Hornby

I Am Certain She Will Go On To Great Things

Liz has already worked with a celebrity to great effect and being a person who people naturally will go to for help, she makes me think that there is little doubt that she will go on to achieve great things.

I Can Personally Recommend Her Services

If there is anyone in the Maidenhead area who is looking for a very astute and professional hypnotherapist then please give Liz a shout out at liz@ehtherapy.uk.
You can see more on her website: http://www.ehtherapy.uk/

Chris Fleet, top UK accredited Hypnotherapist & Hypnotherapy Trainer for Certificate In Hypnotherapy & Diploma In Hypnotherapy

Final Word From Chris Fleet

Liz did find parts of the Diploma In Hypnotherapy Course challenging and she struggled with her phobia for exams, but the one big advantage of studying the course in a small group is the mutual support everyone receives, not just from myself but also from the other students.
In the end, she excelled, finishing top of the class.

The Courses Are Designed To Allow Time For The Students

Parts of the courses can be challenging but they are designed to allow time for students to grasp even the most challenging concepts included.

Certificate In Hypnotherapy & Diploma In Hypnotherapy

Before Starting Her Own Hypnotherapy Practice

.
Alison De Matos studied hypnotherapy a couple of years ago at The Devon School Of Hypnotherapy.  She gained both the Certificate and Diploma In Hypnotherapy.
She subsequently went on to open her own Hypnotherapy Practice, Alison De Matos Hypnotherapy in Devon and now specialises in weight loss.
This is her story, as written by Hypnotherapist Chris Fleet.

Alison De Matos & Chris Fleet's Devon School Of Hypnotherapy for Certificate In Hypnotherapy & Diploma In Hypnotherapy

.

“I loved the course and Chris was highly supportive and learner centred. At times I found it challenging, in a good way, as Chris has high standards and suddenly all my learning clicked into place”

Alison De Matos

.

Hypnotherapy Was New For Alison

Hypnotherapy and hypnosis was completely new to Alison.  Previously she had a background of corporate management working for the British Red Cross.
Prior to attending The Devon School Of Hypnotherapy, Alison did her homework, researching hypnotherapy and hypnosis extensively and the courses that were available. She said she chose course as was impressed by the contents and the qualification gained.
.

Alison Took The Certificate In Hypnotherapy Course

Alison was a little nervous, initially, but she was also very excited to be attending her first hypnotherapy training class.
She took and passed the Certificate In Hypnotherapy Course.
This is essentially a ‘taster’ course and an introduction to hypnotherapy.  It also forms the first module for the accredited Diploma In Hypnotherapy Course.
The content for this Course involves both written theory and practical work.  As part of the practical work, students are taught how to put others into hypnosis and Alison learned how to achieve this, but I am sure she will not mind me saying that she did not set the world alight.
Alison also found some of the written theory work challenging but she showed determination and gained her certificate.
Learning hypnosis and hypnotherapy was completely different to the management world that she had worked in previously and I had the strong feeling that she would not wish to pursue any further training in hypnotherapy.

I Was Wrong

I was, however, very pleasantly surprised when Alison said that she wanted to continue and take the full Diploma In Hypnotherapy Course.
Like the Certificate course, the Diploma Course contains a combination of theory and practical work.  The initial modules are also relatively easy.
For the third module, pupils are asked to use their own imagination and initiative for some of hypnotherapy concepts.
Alison has a great imagination and much initiative, but she initially found some concepts a challenge to grasp.
One vital part of the hypnotherapy training is known as ‘fork in the path’ but, I think it is fair to say, that she struggled initially with this concept.
We talked this concept through, we walked it through, we drew it on the board and repeated it over and again – and then it fell into place.
The effort was worth it.
That was a turning point …

Alison DeMatos Hypnotherapist, ex student from The Devon School Of Hypnotherapy. Qualified with Certificate In Hypnotherapy & Diploma In Hypnotherapy

Alison Started To Flourish

Suddenly, Alison began to flourish, her voice became more confident, her body language subtly changed. She became a star pupil and whatever concept we put to her, she got it.
On gaining her Diploma In Hypnotherapy, she decided that she did not just want to work as a professional hypnotherapist but she started her own practice in Dawlish, Devon.
In the process of starting her own business, she sourced good offices to work from, built a professional looking website and has been busy networking with health professionals throughout the area.

.

Alison Specialises In Weight Loss

Alison now specialises in weight loss hypnotherapy and has people travel to see her specifically for weight loss.
She has also studied other talking therapies such as counselling and CBT and she has already earned back her investment in the course and is fast becoming well known in the area for the work she does.
And, for those not living locally in Devon, she now offers her hypnotherapy services via skype.

.

" ... A course outline is just words unless the content is delivered by a trainer who can bring a course alive, with rich experience, interesting and exciting content and most importantly get the best out of their learners in a supportive, encouraging way. I highly recommend this course as it exceeded all my expectations."      Ali De Matos
